The acting Nigerian High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Ambassador Mohammed Maidugu has lauded Governor Umo Eno for his numerous innovative strides recorded since assumption of office.
According to a report sent to the State Ministry of Education from the United Kingdom and made available to The Pioneer, Ambassador Maidugu made the commendation, recently, while receiving members of the Akwa Ibom/United Kingdom Edutrip who were at the Nigerian House, London on a courtesy visit.
Maidugu, who expressed his admiration for the Akwa Ibom State Government’s dedication toward preparing its youths for the future, emphasised that the Akwa Ibom – United Kingdom Education exchange initiative would serve as a reference point when discussing innovative ideas with visiting dignitaries at the High Commission.
He stressed the importance of promoting Nigeria’s image in a positive manner, particularly at the international level, reiterating the High Commission’s commitment to assisting Nigerians resident in the United Kingdom to succeed in their endeavours.
Some senior officials from the High Commission also briefed the students on the functions of various sections of the Commission such as Protocol, Immigration and education, giving insights into the operations of the Nigerian government abroad.
In his remark, the commissioner for Information and Public Relations, Comrade Ini Ememobong, who served as the liaison for the Edutrip, conveyed Governor Umo Eno’s gratitude for the High Commission’s support which, he noted, contributed to the success of the trip, extending an invitation to Ambassador Maidugu for a visit to Akwa Ibom.
Also speaking, the commissioner for education, Mrs. Idongesit Etiebet, extolled Governor Eno for giving the students what she described as “a life changing experience.”
Etiebet, who expressed appreciation to Ambassador Maigudu for his support toward the success of the trip, expressed optimism that the Edutrip will inspire the students to study harder and achieve greater results in their academic pursuits.
Some of the historic locations visited by the students included the Science Museum, Imperial College and Cambridge University.
At the Imperial College, the students engaged in a session on “Engineering and the future,” as well as “the basics of aeroplane design,” conducted by Dr Sunday Popoola and Andy Chipling, respectively.
Commenting on the UK experience, Akaninyene Ekeredimo, one of the student participants, said, “I was particularly inspired by Imperial College and Cambridge University, and I am motivated to pursue further studies at one of these prestigious institutions,” he remarked.
