The former students of Secondary School Odoro Ikot (SESCOI) Essien Udim Local Government Area, have unveiled their maiden project, with the donation of five giant white board and accessories to their alma mater as part of their contributions to give back to their school.
The donation which took place over the weekend at the school premises, also provided an opportunity for the SESCOI Alumni Association to reunite with their old students after more than four decades.
Presenting the white boards and accessories to the school, the Chairman, Project Planning Committee and team leader, Surv. Ezekiel E. Ikpene, said the association deemed it necessary to visit the school to unveil their maiden project with the donation of the items.
Ikpene, who posited that they were moved to give back to their alma mater that made them to become important personalities in the society, announced that they will undertake lofty projects to give the school a facelift.
“This is a token of appreciation to the school that made us what we are, more of these are coming.
“We started our quest for knowledge here in Secondary School Odoro Ikot. It is not bad for the child to remember the father who has trained him to become something in life.You have given us the compass and bearing to find our ways and that is why we have come back to say thank you”, he said.
The chairman, planning committee disclosed that the school has produced imminent personalities in the society, adding “anywhere I go I’m proud of this school that trained me to be who I am today”
He called on the old students and other members of the community to join hand to lift the school to the next level through execution of projects.
The patron of the Alumni Association, Dr Ime Okop, lauded the initiative of the old students to give back to their school, describing their actions as thoughtful and worthy of emulation.
Okop, who is an Associate Professor at the Akwa Ibom State University and a former teacher of the school, said the school has produced so many personalities in the area.
Receiving the items, the Principal General of the school, Mr Sunday Jonah Usoro thanked the Alumni Association for the gesture describing it as a show of love for their alma mater.
Usoro promised to make good use of the items donated to the benefit of the students, and assured he will do his best to uplift the standard of the school.
He prayed God to bless them for donating the items, while soliciting for more of assistance to reposition the school.
High point of the event was an interactive session with the students of the school, where the old students admonished them to be good ambassadors of the school, and promised to institute awards for the best students.
The Association also used the occasion to pay a visit to one of the non teaching staff of the school, Mr Isaiah Akpan, who they said was very good to them and made cash donation to him.
The visit, according to them was to reciprocate his goodness to them while in school.
Responding, Akpan thanked them for the gesture and prayed God to bless them for remembering him despite the passage more than four decades.
Also on the visit were Mrs Ime Okop, Mr Friday Okop, Rev. Fr. Ndifreke Nathan, Mr Ime Tom and Mr Monday James.
Other leaders of the Alumni Association, include the Pioneer Senior Prefect, Mr Friday Akpan Udom, and Mr Paul Umoren, a lawyer and the Coordinator.
