Four out of the 371workers in Akwa Ibom government employ, who were outstanding in their performance during the just-concluded ICT training, have been presented with laptop computers.
The beneficiaries were Uwem Nkereuwem Williams of State Secondary Education Board, who came first; Michael Udoh Brown of Ministry of Information and Strategy, who clinched the second position; Imabong Akpan Ekpo, staff of State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), who came third and; Ekanem Samuel Akpan, who took fourth position.
The colourful ceremony, at the ICT Resource Centre of the Office of the Accountant General, also witnessed the presentation of certificates to other 371 participants of the ICT training.
Presenting the laptop computers to the beneficiaries, the accountant-general of Akwa Ibom, Pastor Uwem Andrew-Essien said the gesture was deliberate to serve as morale booster to the trainees.
Andrew-Essien, who opined that, he initiated the issuance of certificates upon completion of study to participants, said since the inception of the programme in 2017 till date, about 2491 workers have so far been trained and issued with certificates.
The accountant- general maintained that ICT has greatly impacted communication, virtually reducing the world to a global village, by enabling people to communicate easily and quickly.
He lauded the State government for not only introducing the training of her workforce on ICT, but sustaining the tempo inspite of the harsh economic weather.
Andrew-Essien commended the director of administration and supplies in his office, Mrs Helen George whose office was in charge of the training, for ensuring the success of the programme.
The accountant-general challenged graduands to make the best use of the knowledge garnered during the training to complement the current digitisation process of the state public service, geared towards accurate record keeping and ease of doing government business.
The nanaging director of NIMESI Systems Limited, Mr Etangese Isemin lauded Akwa Ibom government under the watch of Mr Udom Emmanuel for the political will and consistency at ensuring that the state’s workforce was ICT literate.
Isemin noted that Akwa Ibom government has done well in infrastructural development, security, good branding, which according to him, has wooed investors to the state.
On behalf of the graduands, Mr Bassey Asuquo appreciated the State government for training them on ICT, to make them computer literate, saying the knowledge gained would help boost productivity in service.
