The leadership of Lagos branch of Oron Union has reiterated their commitment to continue to assist less-advantage/indigent students of Oro extraction in institutions of higher learning to achieve their goal through the union’s scholarship scheme.
The president of the union, Dr. Edet Ambang made the pledge in his remark during the N10 million phase 2 scholarship fund raising dinner which recently took place at Surulere, Lagos.
He said one of the cardinal agenda of his administration was to ensure support through scholarship to the indegent but inteligentstudents of Oro extraction whose parents have constraints to train them in tertiary education.
Ambang said that another set of beneficiaries would make the second batch list.
“It is our earnest commitment to sustain the educational legacy of our forefathers and that which we are known for. To actualize this, we thought it wise to gather good-spirited kinsmen and friends, committed, patriotic, lovers, supporters and defenders of education to make voluntary contributions which the scheme can be effectively implemented.
The president noted that the union had to do what it should as sacrifice to support government effort in providing functional education to Akwa Ibom indigenes with a view to making the family and the soceity a better place.
While urging the government to pay more attention to education, Ambang appreciated all individual donors and groups including Fortune Club International, Royal Club of Oro, OronElders Forum for their immense contributions and supports, assuring that funds realized would be used judiciously for the set purpose.
