Staff of the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare have been urged to brace up and re-strategise in order to ensure effective service delivery.
The new commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Mrs. Inibehe Etukudo, who made the call during her maiden interaction with the management and staff of the ministry, recently, said it was through such commitment that the lofty goals of Governor Umo Eno’s ARISE Agenda could be achieved.
Etukudo, who expressed appreciation to God and Governor Umo Eno for the opportunity given her to serve as a member of the Akwa Ibom State Executive Council, pledged total commitment toward the realisation of her ministerial mandate.
She also expressed gratitude to the coordinator, Office of the First Lady, Mrs Helen Obareki, for her input in the consideration of her appointment as commissioner and subsequent deployment to the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare.
The women affairs boss, who commended the permanent secretary, directors and the entire staff of the Ministry for the warmth reception accorded her, assured them of an inclusive administration and sued for commitment from all the staff.
Earlier in her remarks, the permanent secretary in the ministry, Mrs. Margaret Edem, thanked Governor Umo Eno for appointing and assigning Mrs. Inibehe Etukudo to the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare as commissioner, expressing optimism that her tenure will usher in remarkable achievements in the Ministry.
Edem, who lauded the coordinator of the Office of the First Lady, Mrs Helen Obareki, for her contributions toward the smooth administration of the Ministry, observed that, “she has been able to fit into the shoes left behind by her late mother,” particularly in spearheading the life-changing programmes of the Golden Initiative For All (GIFA).
The permanent secretary paid glowing tribute to the immediate past commissioner in the Ministry, Dr Ini Adiakpan, for the successes recorded during her tenure, and urged the staff to redouble their efforts by ensuring prompt delivery of duties assigned to them.
In another development, staff of the Ministry of Education have been advised to “raise the bar in service delivery,” with a view to ensuring effective interpretation and implementation of Governor Umo Eno’s vision as enshrined in the ARISE Agenda of the administration.
The newly sworn-in commissioner for Education, Professor Ubong Umoh, who gave the advice recently, while embarking on a familiarisation tour of the departments in his ministry, maintained that as “a proud product of the public school system from primary to tertiary levels,” he was fully committed to quality education, accountability and improved learning outcomes.
Umoh paid an unscheduled visit to Community Comprehensive Secondary School, Four Towns, Uyo, where he was warmly received by the principal, Pastor Ime Ekpo, staff and students, and said he was in the school to inspect facilities there, disclosing that he was equally a product of the school.
The education boss was accompanied on the visit by the acting permanent secretary and director of administration and supplies in the ministry, Mrs. Dorathy Isong, alongside other directors and staff of the ministry.
