The minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, has applauded Akwa Ibom governor’s visionary leadership and development strides, as he inaugurated the 17.33km road projects in Ika Local Government Area.
At the inauguration of the 15.8km Ikot Esu-Otomo-Azumini Road, and the 1.53km internal roads in Ikot Udom, Ika Local Government Area, recently, as part of activities marking the state’s 38th anniversary celebration, Chief Nyeson Wike acknowledged the remarkable leadership and development strides made possible by the state governor, Pastor Umo Eno, leading to the inauguration of the 17.33 kilometres of road projects, describing Eno as a man of exceptional humility, sincerity, and honour.
“What I have seen today in Akwa Ibom is not about 3D, but reality; what we call development. And you know, I have always associated myself with those who mean well for their people. Your governor has greatly shown the love that he has for the people of Akwa Ibom,” Wike stated.
He urged Akwa Ibom people to continuously live in unity and support the state government, for development, growth and progress to thrive in the state.
Akwa Ibom governor, Eno, appreciated Wike for creating time to be part of the inauguration, describing him as a great son of the Niger Delta whom the state was proud of.
He explained that the Ikot Esu-Otomo-Azumini Road in Ika was 15.8km, with some part measuring 3.5km in Azumini, Abia, adding that the newly inaugurated 15.8km road opens Ika to commercial opportunities, as it provides a seamless link to the commercial nerve centre of the South-East, Aba, in Abia.
Eno noted that the presence of Wike, a stalwart of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, alongside other members of the party, to inaugurate a road project done by a state controlled by the APC, underscores the spirit of unity prevalent in the state.
“In Akwa Ibom, we are Akwa Ibom united –united to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term because of his remarkable work to stabilize the economy by availing us with funds to develop our various states,” he said.
“However, the other 1.53km internal road is a fulfillment of the promise that I made to the Hon. Minister of Petroleum (Gas), Obongemem Ekperikpe Ekpo, last year, and to also help our people living there to have good access road to do their businesses,” he added.
Ekpo, and a former attorney-general and commissioner for justice, Uwemedimo Nwoko, SAN, eulogized Eno for giving the people of the area a sense of belonging through the provision of the modern access roads.
Also, the chairman of Ika Local Government Council, Utibe Nwoko Esq., lauded Eno for delivering the road project, describing it as historic and heartwarming to his people who have for the first time witnessed a tarred road in the area.
Nwoko said the project was not just a road but a connectivity with innumerable economic benefits.
