The speaker of Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Elder Udeme Otong, has posited that the 8th Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly (AKHA) under his watch has championed accountability through legislative oversight where all the standing committees of the House have engaged with related ministries, department and agencies (MDAs) to ensure transparency, accountability and progress.
Otong made this assertion during the Quarterly Engagement on Budget Performance Review between Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly and priority MDAs on Wednesday, at Four Points By Sheraton Hotel, Ikot Ekpene.
In his keynote address, Otong commended the executive arm headed by Pastor Umo Bassey Eno on the achievement recorded, which he stated is the actual delivery point of good governance. He further affirmed that the governor, being a development-driven and passionate man, needs not to be monitored, and with this developmental strides, the oversight functions of the 8th Assembly recorded tremendous milestones, including lawmaking and representation.
The speaker appreciated the USAID State2State for their inspiration and encouragement, thereby equipping the members of the State House of Assembly with tools, techniques and mechanisms for effective parliamentary oversight, assuring that the Assembly would continue to support and facilitate the work of USAID in the state.
In his welcome remark and workshop objectives, the State2State team lead,  Mr Borve Paago-Imabel, welcomed members of the 8th Assembly, MDAs and other organisations, thanked them for availing themselves for the quarterly review, called on the participants to cooperate as well as utilise the knowledge acquired at the retreat.
The retreat, which will  last from November 20-22,2024, had all the members of the 8th Assembly, clerk of the Assembly, Mrs NsikakAbasi Orok, directors and permanent secretaries in attendance.
