The Akwa Ibom government has lauded the initiative of the organisers of the Uyo Fashion Week in showcasing the State on the world map.
The State governor, Pastor Umo Eno, who bared his mind, Friday, at the opening ceremony of the Uyo Fashion Week 2024, themed, “Empower Creativity, Shape the Future”, which took place at Ibom Hall, Uyo, noted that the Uyo Fashion Week has engraved the state on the world map by encouraging talents and drive for excellence in the fashion industry.
Eno observed that the fashion show, from its inception, has grown in leaps and bounds to bring to the fore the rich heritage of the state, particularly in the area of fashion, adding that the best in fashion, entertainment, arts and craft have always converged on the state to showcase their skills, assuring that the gathering would soon become a defining cultural event in the international scene, while reiterating his administration’s readiness to continuously support creativity among youths to enable them actualise their potentials in the creative industry and showcase Akwa Ibom on the world map.
He applauded the progenitor of the fashion week, Mrs. Mae Edmonds, for her role in mentoring youths in fashion and integration of the state administration’s ARISE Agenda in articulating her vision, pledging government’s continued support.
The governor charged theorganisers to integrate African fabrics among the elderly, in offices, churches, public places and directed the commissioner for culture and tourism, Sir Charles Udoh, to liaise with organisers of the Week for proper government involvement in the show.
In his keynote address, Mr Udeme Ufot commended Eno for his passion for promoting excellence in creativity and Lady Mae Edmonds, for her vision in showcasing the state to the world.
The organiser of the Fashion Week, Edmonds, described the 2024 edition of the show as a celebration of creativity, culture and entrepreneurship, saying the Uyo Fashion Week 2024 with the theme, “Empower Creativity, Shape the Future”, which brought together fashionpreneurs, industry experts, public sector policy drivers and a plethora of youths across the state is an annual event to showcase the various creatives in the fashion industry.
Edmonds particularly appreciated the governor for the supportive role he has played in making the show a huge success.
The event featured a fashion parade with display of Akwa Ibom designs by Akwa Ibom designers.
