Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has stepped up political mobilisation across the state as preparations for the 2027 general elections gather pace, urging residents—particularly women—to deepen civic participation and rally behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) and his administration.

The governor’s message was delivered through his deputy, Senator Akon Eyakenyi, during successive stops of the Women Sensitisation Tour on Civic Responsibilities in Oron and Urue Offong Oruko local government areas. The tour, organised by the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare and tagged “Women ARISE”, brought together women leaders, party stakeholders and community representatives.

In Oron, Senator Eyakenyi said the Umo Eno administration had restored political unity in Akwa Ibom through what she described as inclusive governance, fulfilling campaign promises made ahead of the 2023 elections. She urged women to take ownership of civic duties by registering with the APC through its ongoing electronic registration exercise and by ensuring they possessed valid Permanent Voter Cards.

She said the administration of President Tinubu had been supportive of Akwa Ibom State, adding that delivering strong electoral backing in 2027 would be an appropriate response. She also called for support for Senate President Godswill Akpabio and for Governor Eno’s return to office, describing continuity as key to consolidating development gains.

“There is an ongoing APC e-registration, and it is not manual,” she told the gathering. “Through this data, the president will know the strength of the party in Akwa Ibom and across Nigeria.”

The coordinator of the Office of the First Lady, Mrs Helen Eno Obareki, thanked residents of Oron for their past support and urged them to maintain momentum ahead of the next elections, noting that early mobilisation often translated into electoral success.

Local leaders echoed similar sentiments. The chairman of Oron Local Government Area, Mr Asuquo Enweme, said the turnout at the event, despite it coinciding with a major market day, reflected the people’s commitment to the administration. He declared Oron’s readiness to deliver overwhelming support for the APC in 2027.

At a separate event in Urue Offong Oruko, the deputy governor highlighted ongoing development efforts in the area, saying the state government was executing 11 projects there under its ARISE Agenda. She described the projects, spanning infrastructure and social services, as evidence of a deliberate focus on grassroots development and equitable distribution of resources within the Oro Federal Constituency.

Women were again urged to participate actively in the Continuous Voter Registration exercise being conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission, including registration of new voters and replacement of lost cards.

Mrs Obareki said the sensitisation tour was aimed at empowering women to engage politically and economically, encouraging them to revalidate their APC membership and take advantage of government-backed empowerment programmes.

The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Mrs Inibehe Etukudoh, said the initiative was designed to position women as advocates of civic responsibility within their communities, while also promoting cooperative formation and health awareness.

Organisers say the Women Sensitisation Tour will continue in other parts of Akwa Ibom State as the government seeks to strengthen grassroots political structures and build support ahead of the 2027 general elections.
