UNITED STATES
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate for Akwa Ibom has met with indigenes of the state in United States of America, where he has intimated them of his vision for the state, when he comes into office as governor in 2023.
Pastor Umo Eno disclosed his vision in his address at theconvention of the Akwa Ibom State Association of Nigeria(AKISAN), USA, Inc in North Carolina, USA.
In a related development, Eno has promised to set up a Diaspora Desk in the United States.
The governorship hopeful made this known at a meet-and-greet event organised in his honour by groups and friends of Umo Eno in the Diaspora, which took place in Charlotte, North Carolina, United States of America.
Eno said, “I will establish a Diaspora Desk that will report directly to me when I am elected governor in 2023 by the grace of God.”
He explained that the primary responsibility of the Diaspora Desk is to initiate an overall beneficial engagement with members of the Diaspora and to involve them productively to invest and develop the homeland.
Eno assured that he would make the desk a one-stop shop and staff it with the best brains who would help in mobilising professionals in the Diaspora, who have much to offer in the planning and development process, starting with a health corridor, to optimise the use of existing but idle facilities.
He called for better coordination of partnerships and development of the state with a view to generating more gainful employment of the youth.
The cleric turned politician also encouraged the Akwa Ibom State Association of Nigeria (AKISAN), USA, Inc to bring its future national convention home to Akwa Ibom.
The event was well attended by dignitaries from home and abroad, including Dr Emmanuel Ekwuwem, Secretary to the Akwa Ibom State Government, Senator Akon Eyakenye and Senator and Mrs Effiong Bob.
