The introduction of the Treasury Single Account (TSA), few months ago, by Akwa Ibom government has yielded positive result, as the State’s internally generated revenue (IGR) suddenly rises from N2 billion to N7 billion.
The State governor, Pastor Umo Eno, who announced the development over the weekend, during the Government House monthly prayer service, which took place at the Latter House Chapel, Government House, Uyo, expressed joy over the sudden rise in the State’s IGR, urging all government Ministries, Departments, Agencies (MDAs) and relevant financial stakeholders to abide by the set rules and standards of the TSA to bring more funds to the State.
According to him, any act of compromise or sabotage of the newly introduced accounting system will be treated accordingly.
“From our Treasury Single Account, TSA, started a month ago, it’s indeed heartwarming that our internally generated revenue has suddenly risen from N2 billion to N7 billion”, Eno said.
He hinted that his administration was taking and executing every development project and programmes one after the other for sustainable transformation of the state, and reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring a significant increase in the State’s internally generated revenue to put the State on a better financial and economic pedestal.
“We want to make our State self-sustaining and sufficient. In the next few years, we should be able to raise our internally generated revenue to a point where it can at least pay our salaries, he said.
He maintained that the ARISE Agenda blueprint and the needs documents from Akwa Ibom people remain the compass of his administration as development was not an automatic phenomenon.
Eno said the development strides of his administration were based on the ARISE Agenda, his economic blueprint and the needs documents presented to him by the people across the State, describing the development blueprint as a well thought out document put together for the development needs of the State.
He assured Akwa Ibom people that government was still running on the development blueprint that it presented to the State and was working tirelessly to ensure that we achieve very well on the goals of the people’s mandate.
On the unfolding political season, the State chief executive officer enjoined everyone to read the political temperature in the State, and avoid heating up the polity, as there would not be any compensation for unwarranted political wastage.
He further implored everyone to keep on supporting the peace, unity, and development of the State, as government was committed to ensuring that the security and welfare of the people are given priority.
In his homily themed, “El-Shaddai: The God Almighty”, drawn from 2nd Corinthians 9:8 and Exodus 6:2-3, the founder and serving overseer of Firstlove Assembly, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Reverend Simeon Afolabi, noted that knowing God does not require a university education but by His revelation, adding that the revelation of God always dispels fear and gives man the boldness and strength to conquer.
According to Afolabi, “El-Shaddai” means the Almighty God who is mighty in wisdom, excellence, power, influence, and in all spheres of life, admonishing Christians to keep on trusting God who always surrounds His people the way Mount Zion surrounds Jerusalem.
