…Commended For Outstanding Performance
…As Stakeholders Task Gov Eno To Do More For The Constituency
… Reaffirms Total Support In 2027
EKET
It was a moment of massive mobilization by the people of Eket Federal Constituency during the Eket Federal Constituency Town Square Meeting and Empowerment, during the weekend, in Eket, as the massive turn out at the event got the governor stunned and having to commend the constituency for putting up an outstanding performance, so far, in the series of the ongoing Town Square Meetings across all the federal constituencies in the state.
With over one thousand constituents, made up of farmers, traders and business entrepreneurs empowered with fundings, equipment and numerous items, the event, which was well planned and organized by the stakeholders of the constituency, was described as, and indeed was, a home coming for the governor who has spent a greater part of his life in the area.
The elated governor also could not hold back his gratitude to Eket land which he described as his place of rebirth, after his birth in Nsit Ubium – alluding to his long stay and business exploits in the area, and from where he rose to become the State Governor he is today.
He therefore thanked the people for welcoming him massively, and for always being with him and supporting him.
Receiving the NEEDS document of the constituency, the governor assured the constituency of looking into their needs and factoring them into the next budget. However, the governor made it clear that he was not promising them of meeting all the needs as contained in the document, but will endeavor to accommodate as many of their requests, as the state funds will allow.
Speaking the minds of the constituents, and on behalf of the other four commissioners from the constituency, the commissioner for Local government and chieftaincy affairs, Mkpisong Frank Archibing, reminded everyone of the fact that the Governor started development in the constituency long before he became the governor, and it is only natural for the Governor to do more for the constituency now that he is the governor.
According to the commissioner, “Your Excellency, we moved because you moved. And we moved with expectations, and we believe our expectations will be met”.
He also reminded everyone that Eket Federal Constituency has always been the treasure base of the state, and declared that if the governor had brought development to the area when he was not a governor, how much more now, when he is the governor and “has the knife and the yam”.
For this reason, he portends that the governor has all it takes to return the region to a place of fabulous wealth.
Dr. Nsidibe Akata, the state house of assembly member representing the Eket State constituency, moved a motion at the event, to adopt and reaffirm the governor for a second term in office, come 2027.
The motion was seconded by the State House of Assembly member representing Onna State Constituency, Sunday Johny.
In his response, the State Governor thanked the people of Eket Federal Constituency for the overwhelming welcome and also cleared the air about the event as a state event devoid of party affiliation.
Eno listed the various projects in the Federal Constituency which is at different stages of completion and promised to do more for the constituency and State in general.
The state chief executive officer, while responding to demands by Eket stakeholders, on the beach and the Qua River Hotel, said government was searching for investors for those projects but urged the host communities to maintain peace to welcome investors, adding that as soon as the lingering legal issues on the Qua River Hotel are settled, government will commence work accordingly.
On the issue of Stubb Creek forest, Eno urged the concerned communities to exercise restrain and caution, as the committee that would be chaired by him, with the deputy governor, speaker of the State House of Assembly, Attorney General and two members each from the concerned communities as members will be inaugurated to lay the issue to rest.
He made known that government will not allow any unapproved building or shanty in the Stubb Creek, and would not hesitate to pull down any of such structure, calling on those in government to create impact within their communities.
