In keeping with the mode of the 61st birthday celebration of the Akwa Ibom governor, Pastor Umo Eno, the commissioner for culture and tourism, Dr Anieti Udofia, has put smiles on the faces of special children and new born mothers.
Udofia visited Foundation For The Marooned (FOMA) Children’s Shelter at 29 Esa Akpan-Ata, Ikot Obong Edong, Itu Local Government Area, where he presented food items, provisions, toiletries and birthday cake to the special children.
The commissioner also visited the delivery suites of the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital, UUTH, and presented cash donations to mothers of newborns to assist them in settling their medical bills.
The gesture by Udofia, to mark the birthday of Governor Eno, coincided with the celebration of the 2025 World Hospitality Day, making it very remarkable.
Quality time was spent at FOMA with the children praying, cutting of cake and singing birthday song to celebrate the governor. The children, through their coordinator, Grace Idongesit expressed appreciation to the commissioner for the show of compassion and love and wished the governor, a happy birthday.
At the UUTH, the commissioner and his team were led to the maternity ward by the director of administration, Dr Joseph Akpan who handed them over to the nurse in-charge of delivery suites, Unyime Emah.
Udofia congratulated the new-born who shared the same birthday with Eno and presented cash gift to the mother of the newborn as well as other newborn mothers in the suites.
Accompanying the commissioner on the visit were the permanent secretary in the ministry, Mrs Grace Akpan, directors and staff of the ministry, the honorary special adviser, HSA, on Tourism, Mrs Ime Udo, the senior special assistant, SSA, to the governor on entertainment, Mr Sergeant David, key players in the hospitality industry under the aegis of Hotel Owners’ Association led by the state and national president, Elder Charles Bassey and Mr Daniel Udo.
The outreach organized by the ministry of culture and tourism was in partnership with the Akwa Ibom chapter of the Hotels Owners Association.
