Newly qualified Chartered Accountants in Akwa Ibom have been tasked to focus on developing their potentials so as to enhance their professional skills.
The state accountant general, Pastor Uwem Andrew-Essien gave the charge when he received the November 2023 diet newly qualified members of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Uyo Study Centre, paid him a courtesy visit in his office in Uyo, Tuesday.
Andrew-Essien, who is also the permanent secretary, said it was not just enough to qualify as Chartered Accountants, but urged them to aim for the top to be relevant in the system as well as contribute positively to the development of the State.
His words: “Do more of self-development, do not be satisfied to be chartered accountants. I urge you to develop yourself and always aim at the top, while striving for the best”.
He advised the newly qualified accountants to eschew all forms of pride, noting that the grace of God only answers to the humble, saying, “Grace can take a man to any height, but it is character that would either sustain or bring you down”.
Andrew-Essien expressed gratitude to the immediate past governor of the state, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, for the sacrifices he made at ensuring that ICAN, Uyo Study Centre, was sustained.
He also acknowledged the effort of the coordinator, ICAN, Uyo Study Centre, Dr. Erasmus Mboboh, to ensure that the Centre produces more Charted Accountants and congratulated the 40 newly qualified ICAN members on their success, and pledged his support to attend the induction ceremony coming up on May 20, 2024.
The leader of the team, Mr. Elias Benjamin Bwallami, said they were in the State Accountant General’s Office to register their appreciation first, to Gov Umo Eno for creating a serene learning environment and also the state accountant general for his numerous contributions and support to accountants and the ICAN project.
Bwallami solicited professional guidance from the accountant general, as newly qualified members to enable them foster the culture of excellence, ethics and proficiency within the accounting profession.
The immediate past chairman, ICAN, Uyo and District Society, Mrs. Eno Akpan, in goodwill message, expressed gratitude to the accountant general for the support and encouragement extended to them during the period of study.
