As part of efforts geared towards the development of Mary Slessor Legacies in Akwa Ibom, stakeholders of the project have been tasked to close ranks for effective collaboration and synergy.
The permanent secretary, Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Mrs. Grace Akpan, made the call during a strategic meeting held in her office with stakeholders of the Mary Slessor’s legacies operating in the State.
Akpan said it was only effective collaboration and synergy that will bring about the anticipated result of turning the Mary Slessor legacies at Use Ikot Oku into a reputable global Tourism facility for the people and government of Akwa Ibom.
She emphasised that, with proper synergy, operators of the sector will be able to effectively collaborate with government to turn the site at Use Ikot Oku, into a Tourism hub that will create job opportunities, generate revenue and create wealth for the people of the State.
The permanent secretary said it was in realisation of the potentials embedded in the project, that the meeting became expedient for all those working on different components of the Mary Slessor legacies to come together to discuss on collaboration and synergy that will boost Mary Slessor’s heritage in the State.
She said the State governor, Pastor Umo Eno, places premium on Tourism in the ARISE Agenda, therefore the government will continue to partner relevant stakeholders which have valuable contributions to make towards boosting the sector for revenue generation and job creation.
Akpan reaffirmed the commitment of Ministry of Culture and Tourism to the development and promotion of the legacies of Mary Slessor as part of efforts toward boosting tourism in Akwa Ibom and lauded the efforts of stakeholders, so far, in preserving the legacies of the revered Presbyterian missionary who stopped the killing of twins in this part of the country.
In their separate remarks, Professor Eno-Abasi Urua of the Mary Slessor International Foundation for Humanity (MSIFFH) and Pasty Inyang of the Twins Alive Foundation, pledged the Foundation’s commitment to sustaining Mary Slessor’s legacies and relics, as one of the state’s foremost tourism projects.
They commended the management of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism for their foresight and thoughtfulness in organising the strategic meeting to chart a path towards a formidable front for the development of the Mary Slessor Tourism hub as it is a valuable tourism asset of the State.
The meeting featured an interactive session during which key stakeholders made contributions on the way forward for the Mary Slessor Tourism hub in the State.
Present were Elder Iniunam Iniunam, chairman of the Mary Slessor International Foundation for Humanity, in the Presbyterian Church; Ambassador Offiong E. Akpan of Kenduo Nig Ltd and Jane Michael Essien of Mary Slessor Aka-Glo Foundation.
Others included Desmon Imoh-Ita of Global Trend Marketing Solutions Ltd, as well as Patsy Inyang and Prisca Nndem of the Twins Alive Foundation.
