Governor Umo Eno has warned citizens and residents of Akwa Ibom against harbouring criminals or supporting their activities in their communities, so as to preserve the prevailing peace and security in the State, as houses identified as hideouts for criminals will be demolished when identified.
“Please, let our people be aware of this. If you are using your house to keep criminals, if we catch you, we will demolish that house,” he said.
Eno, who gave the warning over the weekend, during the Government House monthly prayer service, which took place at Latter House Chapel, Governor’s Lodge, Uyo, noted that as a State reputed as peaceful and secure, there was need for citizens and residents alike, to preserve the prevailing peace and security in Akwa Ibom, as government intends to deal with any group or individuals who attempt to undermine it.
He solicited continued support of the people for government in its quest to deliver on the ARISE Agenda.
Eno, who identified areas in the State that require immediate attention, including the flood-prone Aka Itiam Street, attributed the hindrance to construction progress in the State particularly on roads, to the rainy season, assuring that work will pick up pace with the onset of the dry season.
The state’s chief executive officer emphasised strongly that Akwa Ibom was currently a stronghold of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and assured of the state’s commitment to supporting the party’s candidates in upcoming elections.
He appreciated attendees of the monthly prayer service, noting that the State was sustained by prayers, and used the occasion to appoint and inaugurate Reverend Enobong Ibok of Eyak Ibong Akam Outreach Ministry, as leader of the Government House prayer team, urging that the team should be populated by dedicated Christians who are willing to commit their time and energy to intercede for the State and its leaders.
Preaching on the theme, “The God who sees me”, with texts drawn from Genesis 16:13–16 and Psalm 46:1, the newly inaugurated Government House prayer team lead, Ibok, urged Christians to shun betrayal but remain faithful, as God sees every deed and rewards people according to their works.
