The House of Representatives has passed a bill seeking to establish Federal College of Medical Laboratory Science and Technology in Eka Midim, Abak Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom.
The bill is sponsored by the member representing Abak/Etim Ekpo/Ika Federal Constituency and deputy chairman, House Committee on National Planning and Economic Development, Mr Clement Jimbo, MNIQS.
The bill which was first read on the floor of the House of Representatives on March 14, 2024, and also read the second time on July 18, 2024, went through all legislative processes to enable its third reading.
Jimbo, an impact-driven member of parliament while interacting with newsmen after the bill was read the third time recently, reiterated that the benefits which it will bring to the people of Abak Federal Constituency and Nigerians when assented to by President Tinubu, after concurrence by the 10th Senate are enormous which, among other things, will provide job opportunities and contribute to nation-building through students of the college who will inject fresh ideas into the health sector of the country.
The bill is awaiting concurrence by the Senate and consequent assent by President Bola Tinubu, for effective implementation.
