A severe rainstorm hit Arokho, Owan East Local Government Area of Edo State recently, causing widespread destruction and rendering many residents homeless.
The storm destroyed over 40 houses, churches, shops, and electricity transmission poles, plunging the community into darkness and disrupting socio-economic activities.
Many displaced residents are currently taking refuge with neighbors, struggling to cope with the aftermath of the disaster.
The affected residents described the ordeal, saying that several buildings collapsed after the storm ripped off their roofs.
The community leader, Mr. Joseph Orokhan, appealed for assistance, stating that life has become increasingly difficult for those affected.
Mr. Orokhan urged the local and state governments, as well as well-meaning individuals and agencies, to come to their aid.
He emphasized that the rainstorm has inflicted colossal damage on individuals, families, and businesses, and that government support is needed to help the people return to normal life.
The community’s plea highlights the need for urgent assistance to address the humanitarian crisis.
Speaking further, he said “the governments and stakeholders should respond quickly to provide support and relief to the affected residents. The situation demands a collective effort to rebuild and restore the community.
“The situation in Arokho serves as a reminder of the importance of disaster preparedness and response.
“The governments and stakeholders must work together to provide support and relief to the affected residents and help them rebuild their lives”.
