… No Political Party Can Define Me
… We Must Clearly Define The Time And Season So We Do Not Swim Against The Tide
LAGOS
Gov Umo Eno has urged the political class in Akwa Ibom to do away with selfish party ideology but strive at all times to embrace policies that will continue to unite the state.
Eno tasked the people, Sunday, during a thanksgiving service at The Apostolic Church, Mabujo Assembly, Ikeja, Lagos.
He said that irrespective of party affiliation, he would continue to be the governor, whom the people of the state elected in 2023.
The governor also promised never to disconnect with the people of the state regardless of party.
Eno, who described political party as a vehicle to win election and not to govern the people, promised to continue to unite the people of the state and the various political parties irrespective of where God would take him to in the future.
“Today, Akwa Ibom is united than I met it and this is the legacy that I believe we can leave behind by the grace of God.
“If you check my inaugural speech, you will see I said I will pursue the ministry of reconciliation and by the grace of God, we have tried to live up to that billing.
“Today, we can sit in Church with the honourable minister who is APC, with the distinguished senate president who is APC. We sit together with the chairman of my party, who is PDP and other leaders of my party shaking hands and talking. This we do because it is only in the place of unity that God will commence His blessings,” Eno stated.
The state chief executive officer said his future was in the hands of God Almighty, adding that, the beauty of seeing the political class in Akwa Ibom as one formidable front would remain his greatest legacy.
“I don’t know where I will be tomorrow, whether in PDP, APC or whether YPP or YYY. These are just for political convenience and enlightened state interest. But it will never define who I am. No party can define who Umo Eno is,” he stated.
The governor urged the people of the state not to be scared of his political future, stressing that, “there was no need to be afraid.”
“Those of you who are in politics will know that there are no two elections that are the same. We are the children of Issachar and the children of Issachar were given to understanding the times and seasons and we must clearly define the time and season so that we do not swim against the tide,” the governor noted.
The national vice president of the Church, Pastor Senior Uyeh who preached on the theme: Greatness in humility drawn from 1 Peter 5:6 and James 4 :10, admonished Christians to always emulate Christ in all their dealings.
Uyeh, who enumerated the benefits of humility to include: abundant life, riches, grace for exploits and divine uplift, averred that whoever humbles himself stands being great in life.
The cleric lauded Eno for his humility and simplicity and urged Nigerians to emulate him.
The service was attended by eminent politicians and other dignitaries from all spheres of life.
