BENIN CITY

The Edo State Police Command says its operatives have killed two armed robbery suspects in a gun duel in Benin City.

He added that arms and ammunition were recovered from the suspects.

The police command further stated that the two suspects were members of a robbery gang that robbed an Oil and Gas station Off Murtala Mohamed way Benin City, yesterday.

This was contained in a statement e-signed by the deputy public relations officer for the police command, ASP Jennifer U. Iwegbu, and made available to journalists in Benin City.

The operation was said to have followed a swift response to a distress call to a robbery scene.

“On receipt of the information, the commander crack team immediately mobilised a team of police operatives and vigilante to the scene.

“The armed robbers were later successfully trailed to a different location where they were carrying out another armed robbery operation.

“On sighting the team of Security Operatives, the armed robbers opened fire on them which led to a gun duel.

“In the process, the superior fire power of the security operatives hit two of the armed robbers while others escaped with various degrees of bullet injury.

“The two suspected armed robbers were taken to the Police Cottage Hospital in Benin City where they were confirmed dead by the doctor and their bodies deposited at the mortuary”. The statement added.

The police command, however, enjoined the public to always support the police with credible information, as it is prepared to make the state a hotbed for criminals and their allies.
