The Akwa Ibom police command has arrested a suspected notorious cultist and armed robbery suspect, one Inima Sunday Akpan, said to have been terrorising residents of Ikot Ekpene and surrounding areas.
The arrest took place last Thursday, at approximately 7:00 pm.
A statement by the police public relations officer, PPRO, DSP Timfon John, made available to The Pioneer at the weekend said, the operatives acted on credible intelligence to apprehend the suspect, Akpan, a male from Abak Itiat Ikwuk Village in Ini Local Government Area, who had been in hiding in Ibiaku Village near Uyo City Polytechnic.
The statement said Akpan has an history of involvement in multiple armed robbery cases, including recent incidents in Ikot Otor, Ikot Uboh, and Ikot Osurua, where a lawyer (name withheld) was shot and several others were injured.
According to the police, other members of his gang have already been apprehended.
A search of Akpan’s hideout at the time of his arrest yielded several items suspected to have been stolen, including One new Daylong motorcycle (originally red, repainted black);One 32-inch Itec television; One LG home theater/sound system; One amplifier and One foam.
During interrogation, Akpan is said to have confessed to the crimes, while investigation was ongoing.
