…. “The ONNA People Will Receive Exactly What They Asked For” — Engr. Clinton Akpan
Pursuant to the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) of 2021, designed to benefit the oil-producing communities of Eastern Obolo, Mkpat Enin, Onna, Ikot Abasi, Eket, and Esit Eket (EMOIMEE), the ExxonMobil NNPC/MPN/JV has launched a drug distribution program in all villages of Asuna Nung Oku Clan, commencing on Tuesday, September 10th, 2024.
Commissioning the distribution of the drugs at Dr. Umo Isong Health Center, Ikot Udo Esseng, the Alternate Chairman of the Host Community Development Trust, Engr Clinton Akpan acknowledged with thanks, the patient ONNA people has exercised with the Committee.
Engr. Clinton, while addressing the reporter, said that the HCDT Committee in ONNA will do everything possible to give to each community what they requested for.
He explained that the drugs so far distributed to Asuna Nung Oku Clan, was part of what they requested for. He advised that people should not be gitering by what they see in other host commmunitess, stressing that, it is what they requested for and that ONNA’s own is different.
The Alternate Chairman of HCDT further explained that the Trust will soon begin the payment of the bursary to the qualified students of ONNA, whose data and identify has been certified that they are truly students in the higher institutions, stating that all the creepances has so far been sorted out.
Dr. Tom Umoh, Chairman Procurement Sub-Committee of the EMOIMEE at Health Center, Edem Idim Eshiet to distribute drugs for Edem Idim and Ikot Akpan Ishiet, expressed the committees’ readiness to partner with health centers for a successfully ameliorate the common health challenge in our communities.
He further warned and advised that the drugs given to communities are not to be sold to anyone, but rather, to be given out freely to individuals with a detected health challenge. He said that every community in ONNA will soon take inventory of their drugs.
Obong (Engr.) Ntiense Mbosoh, Advisory Committee Member of the HCDT in ONNA, said that, as expected of him, the management committee which he has the mandate to supervise, will conduct routine checks to ensure the workability and the smooth running of the disbursement of the drugs to affected patients in ONNA.
Dr. Joshua Ndoho, Secretary of the Management Committee of EMOIMEE thanked the committee for doing a diligent job. He said it is better to spend quality time to discharge a quality job. According to him, the HDCT in Onna will deliver on the tasks expected of them. He however, sort for cooperation between the HCDT and the committee for onward discharge of their duties.
In response, Chief Ezekiel Sunday Ezekiel, village head of Edem Idim Ishiet, and Mrs. Roseline Benjamin, Medical Officer at the Health Center, expressed their gratitude to the HCDT Committee for their thoughtful initiative.
They pledged to utilize the resources effectively, serving the community as advised. Chief Ezekiel noted that this initiative will not only enhance the health and wellbeing of ONNA LGA residents but also showcase a genuine commitment to community development and empowerment.
As the Trust continues to make significant progress in improving the lives of ONNA residents, the community eagerly anticipates more impactful projects in the future.
