
… Charges Appointees To Discharge Their Duties Diligently

In a move to catapult Okobo Local Government Area to unprecedented heights of development, the executive chairman, Engr. George Henshaw, has appointed no fewer than 154 new officials to drive progress in the local government.
In a release signed by the chief of staff to the council chairman, Elder Ben Oyombio, the council boss approved the appointment of 154 new officials, comprising 10 political advisers, 45 special and personal assistants, and 100 committee members drawn from each of the political wards in Okobo Local Government Area.
The appointees, made up of people of proven integrity and seasoned politicians who have made indelible footprint in the sands of time with unique strengths of character and accomplishments in their various endeavors, included Dr. Ubuo Effiong Ubuo, former executive chairman of the Council; Dr. Sylvester Attah, immediate past chairman; and Rt. Hon. Asuquo Koffi, immediate past vice chairman of the Council.
Other appointees are Dr. John O. Obisung, a renowned political scholar and stalwart; Mr. Joseph Bassey, former president of Essu Nlap Oro and senior special assistant to the governor; and Elder Emmanuel George, a former state officer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Also appointed were Mr. Anthony Antigha, the immediate past transition committee chairman, former special assistant to the governor, Mr. Ekpenyong Atteh; former head of Account and Finance in Akwa Ibom State Deputy Governor’s Office, Elder Prince Ime Umoh, Elder Monday Umana, the immediate past chief whip of Okobo Legislative Council, Hon. Samuel Okpo and the immediate past House leader, Hon. Rex Enwieme and a media personality, Mr. Victor Unoh as chief press secretary, among others.
Speaking with journalists, the executive chairman of Okobo Local Government Council, Rt. Hon. George Henshaw, stated that the appointments were made in fulfillment of his campaign promises to return power to the people, and push development to the grassroots.
He explained that the gesture was in line with the ARISE Agenda of Governor Umo Eno, and the slogan of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and charged the new appointees to discharge their duties diligently in order to move the local government to the next level.
Henshaw acknowledged that the selection process might not have been perfect, but assured that efforts were made to accommodate as many people as possible in the running of his administration, and called for all hands to be on deck to take development to the rural communities.
He advised the newly appointed aides to see their appointment as a privilege to serve and to ensure that the opportunity benefit their wards and the local government area.
The council boss also urged the appointees and committee members to avoid creating crisis or joining factions that could weaken the strength of the party, stressing that his administration is committed to working assiduously towards ensuring that the PDP continues to grow stronger and better in all the units and wards.
This strategic appointment is a testament to Henshaw’s unwavering commitment to empowering the grassroots and driving inclusive development.
