ONNA
Nung Ndem Ward 1 in Onna Local Government Area has registered an impressive milestone in the ongoing All Progressives Congress, APC, E-registration exercise taking place nationwide.
This was made known on Friday during the HomeGoing Ward meeting which took place at the Civic Centre, Mkpok, Onna Local Government Area.
The E-registration exercise, which timeline was to elapse on Saturday, January 31, 2026 has, in the wisdom of the National Executive Council of the APC, been extended by one week.
With a particular torch-lighting of activities in Nung Ndem Ward 1, interesting things were observed, as the meeting which began at about 2:28pm, had great sons and daughters of the Ward in attendance, including the general manager and editor-in-chief of Akwa Ibom Newspaper Corporation (AKNC), publishers of The Pioneer Newspapers, Mr Umoette Umoette;former member of Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly (AKHA)for Onna, Barr. Ini Ikott; former transition chairman of Onna, Obonganwan Nse Anthony Akpan; former APC candidate for Eket/Onna/Esit Eket/Ibeno Federal Constituency, Dr. Kufre Akpabio; co-ordinator of Personal Assistants to Governor Eno in Onna, Mr. Ekerette Ituen; former chairmanship aspirant of PDP in Onna, Barr. Akwaowo Ikott; and Nung Ndem 1 ward chairman, Mr. Anietie Friday.
Others were APC Onna Chapter Auditor 2, Mr. Dickson Akpan Dickson; Onna APC legal adviser, Mr. Clement Umoren; a seasoned Journalist and former chairman, National Youth Council, Onna Chapter, Mr. Ebong Umoffia, among other dignitaries.
Speaking at the meeting, the AKNC boss, Umoette, urged Nung Ndem 1 constituents to evangelise more in order to win more souls to the APC and maintain the lead in the local government so that the ward can come out tops for APC in Onna, during elections.
Also speaking, Dr. Kufre Akpabio, said the meeting was not a speech-making gathering, but to encourage Nung Ndem constituents to do more in the area of information to curry more registrants in order to boost the current standing of the Ward.
He took time out to particularly acknowledge the two observers, a former member of Onna Legislative Council, Hon. Samuel Umana and a practicing Journalist, Mr. Esekong Essiet, who were sent by the Party to monitor the exercise.
Speaking also, Barr. Ini Ikott noted that Nung Ndem 1 is known for political exploits, advocating that more information be spread to the nooks and crannies of the Ward regarding the benefits of the ongoing E-registration.
Furthermore, attention was drawn to the healthcondition of the 19 female members of the APC from Nung Ndem 1, who were involved in a motor accident on their return from the official defection ceremony of the governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Bassey Eno, last year, sustaining serious injuries.
Dean of Personal Assistants to Governor Umo Eno in Onna, Mr. Ekerette Ituen, who highlighted the issue, expressed his deepest concern over the current state of the occupants of the ill-fated bus.
Ituen stressed that the Party faithful who sustained various degrees of injuries were still nursing the wounds and bearing the pains of that motor accident.
He thanked God that even in the midst of the unforeseen event, no life was lost, and passionately appealed to the State governor to come to the aid of the victims.
Ituen also commended the chief E-registration agent in Onna, Engr. Emmanuel Uko, whom he referred to as a good ambassador of Nung Ndem, added that Uko deserved the mention and encouragement.
A delve into the register of Nung Ndem 1 indicated that Nung Ndem 1 registered a total of 1,031 new members before the Friday statewide meeting.
