Barely few weeks after the submission of names of commissioners and special advisers designates to the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly by the governor for approval, there are strong indications that the new officers will be inaugurated on Monday, February 24, 2025.
The State governor, Pastor Umo Eno, who gave the indication, Saturday, during the February edition of the Government House Monthly Prayer Service, which took place at the Latter House Chapel, Governor’s Lodge, Uyo, recalled that the names had been submitted to the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly for confirmation, expressing hope that the House will give approval soon.
Eno thanked those who, despite not making the list, were still supporting government, assuring that as integral parts of government, such persons will be considered in subsequent times, as appointment is turn by turn.
He described the incoming officers as the delivery team which comprises young people with a little mixture of old, young, and women, expressing hope that all the wisdom of the old, the strength of the youths and the care of the women will mix together to produce a good team.
“We have submitted the names of commissioners, it is now with the House of Assembly and we believe they will give us confirmation soon. We pray they give us next week. If they give us next week, the deputy speaker is here, we should be able to swear in the commissioners and special advisers on the 24th, which is on a Monday so that we can quickly take the new commissioners through a retreat and come back to work.
“Thank you all of you that couldn’t make the list but are still supporting us. You are part of government and this thing is turn by turn. One day it will get to your turn.
“Please when things happen, don’t feel bad. Honestly, to make that list required some fasting and some prayers, and we trust that those that God has brought will put in their best. We are all young people and little mixture of old, young, women and we trust that all of the wisdom of the old, the strength of the youths and the care of the women will mix together and give us a very good team. This is the delivery team”.
Eno announced his plans to lay the foundation for the Gender Initiative For All (GIFA) building as part of the first year anniversary of the pet project.
The governor used the occasion to acknowledge the performances of his appointees, particularly, the chairman of Uyo Capital City Development Authority (UCCDA), Mr. Anietie Eka, for the work done under the flyover, urging him to put more effort in bringing sanity to the State capital.
He also thanked the fathers of faith for their support and prayers which, he noted, have contributed to the success of his leadership in the State, saying he was indeed grateful and solicited more of their support and prayers.
“Let me, particularly, thank the chairman of Uyo Capital City Development Authority (UCCDA), for the work you are doing under that flyover. Please put more effort.
“We want to turn our State to a tourism State, and this is what we see in developed countries as we travel, and I like what you are doing. But, as you do them, also provide security so that bad boys don’t go and sit there and scare the real people that should sit there.
“Let me thank the Fathers of Faith for their support and prayers. We are indeed, grateful. We need more support and prayers.
“Let me also say that it is the more we see you, the more we feel very strong knowing that there are big people behind us. I, alone, cannot be leading you somewhere. Thank you so much for your support, we are indeed grateful,” Eno added.
