
… As Permanent Secretary Hands-over Assets, Liabilities

The new commissioner for culture and tourism has promised to expand on the gains of the Ministry.
Dr. Anieti Udofia, stated this when the management and entire staff of Ministry of Culture and Tourism, received him into office, during which the permanent secretary, Mrs. Grace Akpan, handed-over the assets and liabilities of the Ministry to him.
Udofia also expressed appreciation at the warmth and love he experienced within the short while he stepped into the Ministry and urged the staff to maintain the bond of togetherness and team spirit in the discharge of the tasks and programmes of the Ministry.
The commissioner commended the permanent secretary for her commitment and dedication as portrayed in his interaction with her since he was posted to the Ministry on Monday soon after his swearing in and expressed the hope that all staff of the Ministry will team up with the permanent secretary to enable the Ministry deliver on its mandate as enshrined in the ARISE Agenda.
He pledged to take the Ministry to higher heights by consolidating and expanding on the achievements of his predecessor and kinsman, Sir Charles Udoh, and hoped to draw from his wealth of experience.
The new culture and tourism commissioner, who acknowledged that well motivated staff are highly productive staff, said he believes in good reward system for workers and charged all staff of the Ministry to take their duties seriously and be hardworking as hard work pays and often opens-up doors of opportunities to people.
Earlier, the permanent secretary, Mrs. Grace Akpan, had said she was handing-over to the new commissioner, a payroll of 122 vibrant and highly motivated staff, who are punctual to work and very committed to their daily assigned duties and activities.
She said with tourism as a globally acknowledged cash cow utilised for the development of most economies, the governor of Akwa Ibom, Pastor Umo Eno, has placed tourism on the pinnacle of his development blueprint – the ARISE Agenda – therefore the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, is on a speed lane to deliver on its mandate.
Akpan, therefore, welcomed the new commissioner to the Ministry and pledged the cooperation of all staff in their collective vision of turning around the fortunes of the Ministry to enviable heights.
The new commissioner took out time to interact with the staff, sang choruses, prayed with them and looked round some offices in the Ministry.
