In a significant development, Chris Ojeikere, a former PDP member in Edo State and spokesman for Dr. Asue Ighodalo’s Governorship Campaign Council, has been appointed as the Edo State Publicity Secretary of the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
This appointment comes just days after Ojeikere resigned from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), citing the party’s inability to serve its purpose as an effective opposition due to alleged annexation and colonization by “APCian forces”
Ojeikere has accepted the responsibility with a sense of focused commitment to the SDP’s ideology of “social democracy”, which aligns with his worldview. He believes that Nigeria is at a crossroads, and citizens must take a stand against the current woeful rulers.
According to him, “people are either contributing to the catastrophe by supporting the All Progressives Congress (APC) or working towards the rescue of Nigeria by opposing them. Ojeikere has chosen the latter, so help me God”.
The former PDP member expressed his reasons for leaving the party, saying that after careful consideration, he decided to commit his talents, reach, and political capital to the emerging opposition coalition seeking deliverance for Nigeria.
However, he emphasized that he remains committed to reclaiming the mandate given to Dr. Ighodalo in the last governorship election and will continue to fight for it.
As a passionate pan”Edo First” patriot and a member of the Edo Forum of Patriots since its inception nine years ago, Ojeikere assured that his stand of seeking the very best for Edo remains unchanged.
With Ojeikere’s appointment, the SDP may gain new momentum in Edo State, potentially altering the political landscape. Only time will tell how this development will impact the state’s politics.
