The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Akwa Ibom State Chapter, led by Comrade Nsikak Okon, is set to host a South-South Zonal Meeting of the Association, which coincides with the celebration of the State executive’s first 100 Days in Office on Saturday, July 26, in Uyo.
The Zonal Meeting has as its theme, “Reporting Gender based Violence: The Women Journalists’ Perspective,” while the sub theme: “Early Detection Is Key to Cancer Treatment in Women,” underscores the urgent need for proactive health screening among women, especially in the fight against breast cancer—one of the most prevalent and deadly cancers affecting women globally.
Comrade Okon urges women to prioritise their health, emphasising that early detection greatly increases survival rates.
The dual event will end with a Thanksgiving Service on Sunday, July 27, at 10am at the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Edet Akpan Avenue, themed, “Faithful Through the Ages.”
The chairperson invites all members and the public to join in expressing gratitude for God’s faithfulness and the impactful strides made by the association in just 100 days.
NAWOJ, Akwa Ibom Chapter, remains committed to gender issues, economic and political empowerment of women, and unity, championing a stronger voice for women in media and society.
Chairman of the planning committee, Comrade Helen Udofa, informed that the two events which will take place simultaneously, will commence with arrival of Delegates from the South South States, and would features the opening ceremony with lectures, Medical Check Up, among other, and would climax with a Thanksgiving Service, encouraging all members to attend.
“Dearest NAWOJians, This is our Show. So, let us kindly shelve other things and prepare to participate fully in the 2-day events to make it colourful and grand”, she urged.
