The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Akwa Ibom State chapter, over the weekend went to God in thanksgiving for the successful election and inauguration of the current executive committee, as well as for the modest achievements the executive has recorded in the State in the first 100 days in office.
The State chairperson of NAWOJ, Comrade Nsikak Okon, who led her executive members and a cross section of members of NAWOJ in Akwa Ibom as well as national and zonal officers of the Association, who were in the State for a South South conference, to the Thanksgiving Service, tagged: “Faithful Through the Ages”, which took place at the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Abundance Mega Parish, Edet Akpan Avenue, Uyo, said it became necessary to give thanks to God for His divine protection of members in the course of the discharge of their duties and for promotion of members.
She also thanked God for His grace upon the lives of members and for his manifold blessings on members, saying Thanksgiving was a tradition of her executive.
In addition, Okon was grateful to God for the journey mercies granted to national and zonal officers of NAWOJ from the South South states to attend a Zonal Conference in Uyo and for a successful hosting of the Conference themed: “Reporting Gender Based Violence: The Women Journalists’ Perspective” and zonal meeting, without any hitches and prayed God to take the visitors safely back to their various destinations.
Chairman of the Central Planning Committee, Comrade Helen Udofa, expressed gratitude to God for the achievements recorded by the executive in the past 100 days, highlighting the association’s tireless efforts in advancing NAWOJ’s vision and programmes.
Udofa appreciated God for His grace in preserving the lives of women journalists in the state.
She noted that thanksgiving is a divine commandment as such the Association thought it wise to go to God in thanksgiving to show appreciation for all he has done for them.
In a sermon titled, “The Flourishing Christian,” Pastor Victor Harry of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Abundance Mega Parish, emphasized the importance of bearing fruits and making meaningful impacts in both God’s kingdom and society.
Harry likened a flourishing Christian to a palm tree, stressing that it is God’s will for His children to be fruitful.
The highlight of the event was the donation of Chairs by the state Exco and members of NAWOJ in appreciation of God’s goodness and grace, while the Regional Pastor, Pastor Idris Umar, offered prayers for the team.
The Thanksgiving Service was attended by notable dignitaries, including Mrs. Lilian Okonwo-Ogabu, Deputy National President of NAWOJ; Mrs. Stella Macaulay, Vice President, South-South Zone F; National Trustee for the South South Zone and Press Secretary, Office of the First Lady of Akwa Ibom State, Comrade Uduak Ekong; Comrade Sonia Unobunjo, Chairperson Delta State; Comrade Precious Awakwo Ovie, Secretary, Rivers State NAWOJ; Chairperson and Secretary of Cross River State Chapter, Mrs Rekpene Uket and Maria Ewa, respectively, as well as executive members of Akwa Ibom State Chapter of NAWOJ, among others.
