There is a floodgate of resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members following the recent progressive moves by Gov. Umo Eno to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Analysts are of the opinion that the influx to the APC was a reflection of the love the people have for the governor and an appreciation of what the governor has done in the state for the past two years.
A former deputy governor of the state, Obong Nsima Ekere, said Eno was a leader par excellence, whose sincerity to governance was top-notch.
Ekere noted that with what the governor has done in the state for the past two years, there was high hopes that the state would be better than how he met it when he finishes the first term.
“And let me tell you, Gov. Umo Eno will win his second term massively and landslide even in the All Progressives Congress,” he stated.
Ekere called on Akwa Ibom people to shun ethnic sentiments, partisanship and primordial interests but should follow the governor.
A former secretary to Akwa Ibom Government, Obong Umana Okon Umanah, described Eno’s movement to the APC as a “tsunami.”
Umana said it was the first time in the history of Akwa Ibom that a prominent person changes party and had massive followership.
A former minister of petroleum, Chief Don Etiebet, noted that he was impressed by the inclusive governance strategy of the governor.
Etiebet said there was no way Akwa Ibom people would not follow the governor, who “is considerate, compassionate and development -focus; a man of peace.”
The member for Ukanafun/Oruk Anam Federal Constituency and chairman, House Committee on Public Procurement, Mr Unyime Idem, said he identified with the governor for taking a decision that would turn around the fortunes of the state.
“This movement has comfortably positioned Akwa Ibom in the mainstream of politics and governance. By this development, the political future, economic future of the state is brighter,” the lawmaker said.
