The commissioner for Special Duties and Ibom Deep Seaport has urged the management and staff of the ministry to strive to make the workplace feel like a home.
Comrade Ini Ememobong, who gave the charge on Friday, February 28, when he hosted February-born staff of the Ministry, emphasised the need to celebrate people as a source of motivation, adding that the strategic role of the Ministry in the overall development of the state requires highly motivated members of staff.
“If we don’t make our workplace a home, we will end up growing older very quickly. We want to make this ministry a place that every staff member will always look forward to coming to from Monday to Friday. So, let’s make this workplace a home.
“Governor Umo Eno is a leader who appreciates his staff and workers. He showed that by the recent appreciation of outstanding civil servants, who all went home with one million Naira each. So, in the Umo Eno era, we now have millionaire civil servants.
“As the Governor’s foot soldiers, we are only replicating what he is doing in terms of staff motivation. I can assure you that the Governor’s disposition is our disposition because a happy worker is an energetic worker,” he said.
The special duties commissioner further urged the staff to be more committed to their duties, assuring that the Ministry will continue to improve in its appreciation packages.
Earlier, the permanent secretary, Engr. Udosen Udoh, lauded the commissioner for his ingenuity, which, according to him, was the first of its kind in the Ministry, adding that the staff were already feeling his impact within his first four days in office.
“This is one of the many things that have marked you out among commissioners. You have done this within your first four days in office. This will not only give the staff a sense of worth, but will also spur them to work harder,” he said.
Responding on behalf of the celebrators, Victoria Otu thanked the commissioner for celebrating them, noting that the gesture has given a sense of belonging in the Ministry, pledging that they will reciprocate it by working relentlessly to help the Ministry achieve its goals.
High point of the event was the cutting of the birthday cake by the celebrators and the presentation of gifts by the commissioner.
