UYO
The Akwa Ibom Government has announced that on Saturday, May 2, 2026, Ibom Air will commence international flight from the Victor Attah International Airport to Kotoka International Airport in Accra, Ghana.
The maiden flight by Ibom Air is scheduled to depart Uyo for Accra on Saturday, May 2 with a return flight scheduled for Sunday, May 3.
A release signed by the commissioner for information, Mr Aniekan Umana, indicates that this development is sequel to the recent presidential approval for the upgrade of the Victor Attah International Airport (VAIA) to international status and the concerted investment by the Governor Eno led administration to put in place all required technical and infrastructural facilities at the airport.
“This historic milestone represents a significant step in the state’s strategic drive to expand its aviation capacity, enhance international connectivity and position Akwa Ibom as a preferred destination for tourism and investment”.
“While this maiden fight signals the commencement of international operations from Uyo, the official opening of the new terminal building and full commercial flight schedules will be announced in due course,” the release reads in parts.
The information boss expressed government’s profound appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for granting the approval and to the minister of aviation and aerospace, Festus Keyamo, for his efforts in ensuring the realisation of the vision even as he also acknowledged the contributions of former governors in the state for their roles towards the development of the aviation sector in the state.
He reiterated the commitment of the present administration to sustain development of the aviation ecosystem for the economic advancement of the state.
