The State commissioner for information has assured of partnership with the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Akwa Ibom State Council, to further project the ARISE Agenda of Governor Umo Eno.
Mr. Aniekan Umanah, who gave the assurance, Friday, when he received the State Working Committee of the NUJ, on a courtesy visit on him at the conference room of the Ministry, underscored the importance of the Union to the information management and dissemination role of his Ministry, as well as the growth of the State.
Umanah thanked Governor Eno for bringing him as a commissioner in his cabinet to further propagate the ARISE Agenda, averring that he would work with the NUJ, and other media affiliates and associates, as a team, to continue to showcase the achievements of the governor.
He commended the inclusive approach of Governor Eno in delivering good governance to the people.
While appreciating the Union for acknowledging the strides of the governor, Umanah urged the Union not to relent efforts in showcasing the good works of the State chief executive in the past 20 months, as attested to by President Bola Tinubu.
The information commissioner further promised to synergise and partner the media community, assuring that his Ministry will continue to support the activities of the Union.
Leading his Executive members to congratulate and welcome the commissioner on his reappointment to superintend over the information management sector of the State, the NUJ chairman, Comrade Amos Etuk, expressed the support and solidarity of the Union.
Etuk stated that the good working relationship the Union had with past commissioners would be extended to Umanah, pledging the support of the NUJ to the activities and programmes of the Ministry in promoting the ARISE Agenda.
He disclosed the NUJ’s growth under his leadership from 405 membership strength that he inherited, to 798, making it the biggest in the South-South and fourth largest in Nigeria.
Etuk highlighted his other achievements to include, human capacity development, eradication of quacks and a robust welfare scheme for members.
While applauding the leadership distinction of Governor Eno and his love for the Union, demonstrated through the recent car gifts and other supports, the number one journalist in Akwa Ibom assured that the media will continue to write to foster peace and unity in the State, promoting its ideals to ensure it remains the pride and best choice to live, work and invest in.
The permanent secretary, Akparawa James Edet, in a vote of thanks, applauded the synergy and proactive interface of NUJ, under the leadership of Amos, with the Ministry of Information over time, urging that same relationship should be sustained, and appealed to the pen pushers to continue to project the good brands of the governor.
Edet announced the imminent honour of the commissioner as the International Vice President of Ati Annang.
The visit had all the directors in the Ministry and the SWC members of the Union in attendance.
