Inspector General of Police, IGP, has acknowledged the numerous contributions of the Akwa Ibom governor, Pastor Umo Eno, towards the welfare of police officers in the State, making their stay and job delivery easier and more effective in the State.
IGP Tunji Rilwan Disu, who bared his mind, Thursday, during a courtesy visit on the Governor at the State EXCO Chambers, Government House, Uyo, lauded Eno’s strong commitment to maintaining law and order in the State, as well as his unwavering support and collaboration to continue to keep the peace and safety that Akwa Ibom was widely known for.
He implored the governor to keep on taking the police officers as his own, as it has come to the point in Nigeria where everybody must own the police, stressing that the security of the communities and the States belongs to everyone.
The IGP emphasised the importance of community policing and partnership, stressing the need for partnership by all in ensuring that peace endures in communities, and that, law and order do not break down.
Disu said he was in the State to attend the passing out of the over 1,000 police constables whom he described as competence and good in handling their fire arms, thanking the governor for his support towards the training of the constables.
He commended Governor Eno for the huge financial and logistics supports for the officers to achieve the expected success in the training, noting that the collaboration was enormous and very helpful in the success of the training programme and the State Command in general.
Governor Eno commended the IGP for working the vision of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in establishing a functional State Policing that will work in strong collaboration with the Nigerian Police, noting that state policing has great advantages and play a key role in improving safety and responding more effectively to local security challenges.
Praising the county’s 23rd inspector General of Police, Eno recalled his leadership style as the Rivers State commissioner of Police, and congratulated him on his appointment as the 23rd indigenous Inspector General of Police in Nigeria.
Eno equally appreciated the IGP for appointing an indigene of Akwa Ibom State, DCP Anthony Placid, to work in his team as the Force Police Public Relations Officer, and for coming for the passing out of the constables after their rigorous training in firearms handling, saying his presence was a great morale booster for them to do excellently in their job.
He also appreciated the Nigerian Police Force and other security agencies for working tirelessly to protecting lives, properties, land and sea, and reassured of his administration’s continued partnership and support for the police and other security agencies to make the State an oasis of peace.
The governor also appreciated the commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom State Command, CP Baba Azare, for his great sense of hard work and commitment to work in the State, noting that he does not lead from the rear, but from the front.
CP Azare, in a show of gratitude, informed the IGP of Eno’s exceptional support and intervention which has helped to enhance efficient and speedy delivery of duties, listing the gestures as construction of internal road network within the command headquarters, donation of a 3-bedroom compassionate homes for two female police officers whose houses were destroyed by fire, provision of operational vehicles and gun boats for waterways security, as well as allowances for welfare of officers.
