The Akwa Ibom governor has firmly directed contractors handling the 7-kilometer access road to the Ibom Deep Seaport project to expedite work and ensure its completion before May 29, 2025.
Pastor Umo Eno, who gave the directive, Friday, during an unscheduled but strategic visit to the project site in Mbo Local Government Area, noted the importance of the access road leading to the Industrial City Gate, in ensuring seamless connectivity for the port’s development.
Eno also directed the immediate commencement of the access gate construction, groundbreaking for Sales Offices, and the Container Terminal, saying that these key developments will mark a significant step towards making the port a reality.
He cautioned host communities against disrupting government projects in their areas, while urging them to support the initiative for the greater economic good.
Eno highlighted the numerous benefits the project would bring, including job creation, increased trade, and commercial growth within the hub, saying, “we must start something and see how far our strength can take us, even as we expect help”.
The long anticipated Ibom Deep Seaport project, when completed, will position Akwa Ibom as a leading maritime hub, boosting trade, industrialisation and overall economic growth in the South South region.
The governor was accompanied on the visit by the State deputy governor, Senator Akon Eyakenyi; secretary to the State government, Prince Enobong Uwah; executive assistant to the governor, Aniefiok Johnson; commissioners, chairman of Mbo Local Government Council, managing director of Hensek Integrated Services, Engr Uwem Okoko and the contractor handling the access road, Engr Aiman Saiman of Amitec Construction.
