…. Inaugurates 9.76km Ikot Eyo – East West Road In Nsit Ubium
By Bassey Nkponam
NSIT UBIUM
The Akwa Ibom governor has described himself as the greatest project to Nsit Ubium Local Government Area as he inaugurated the 9.76km Ikot Eyo – Edem Idim Okpot – Mbiekene – Nung Obong – Ikot Ntung – East West Road, with 60m span bridge and spurs.
Pastor Umo Eno, who bared his mind, Tuesday, at the inauguration of the road project which connects Nsit Ubium to the three neighbouring local government areas of Eket, Esit Eket and Ibesikpo Asutan, noted that the gift of God through him to Nsit Ubium has become the greatest project, assuring that what the area lost in the past 37 years, will be attainable in eight years.
At the inauguration ceremony, which took place at Luke Avenue, Ikot Abat – Ndon Adiaha, Governor Eno described the road as a project with very high economic significance and strategic to the people of Nsit Ubium, as it connects almost three local government areas.
He highlighted the significance of the project in the area, having been the first project to be inaugurated by a sitting governor since the creation of Akwa Ibom.
“When I was told that this is the first project to be commissioned by any sitting governor since Akwa Ibom was created, I tried to doubt it, but I discover that the people are correct because they told me from one stage to another. But you know what, I am your greatest project. The gift of God through me to Nsit Ubium has become the greatest project. So, what you lost in the past 37 years, you will get in 8 years”.
Eno noted that his administration has tried to be very equitable in the distribution of infrastructure in the state, as there are no local government areas that government has not provided a school or hospital.
He promised to develop his home, Nsit Ubium, the same way other governors developed their places, disclosing that, government, in next year’s budget has made provisions for the dualisation of Nung-Udoe – Afaha Nsit Road, and outfalls in Ibesikpo and Nsit Ubium Local Government Areas, and has also made provision in the same budget, intentionally, for the development of Afaha Offiong – Itreto Road in Nsit Ubium, up to Nsit Ibom Local Government, to improve commerce and traffic.
Eno also assured of equitable distribution of projects across the state with due attention to the needs of Nsit Ubium people in the course of his administration’s development programme, saying his emergence as governor was the best Akwa Ibom project for Nsit Ubium.
He appreciated the patience and understanding of the people of Nsit Ubium with his administration in the spread of development projects across the state, assuring that they will not regret their support for him as their interest would receive due attention in due course.
Eno, particularly, thanked the contractor handling the project, Bulletine Construction Company, for renovating the Ikot Eyo Community School and building a 3-bedroom bungalow for the principal as part of the company’s corporate social responsibility, thereby supporting the ARISE Agenda initiative of his administration, while also lauding them for their diligence and timely delivery of the project.
Giving details of the project, the commissioner for works and fire service, Professor Eno Ibanga, described Eno’s intervention on the road as salvation to several Nsit Ubium communities, noting that the 9.76km road, with a 60m span bridge and spurs at Luke Avenue, Ikot Mbat and Ndon Adiana has been built according to specifications.
In their separate goodwill messages, Nsit Ubium stakeholders, including the political leader of Uyo Senatorial District, Senator Effiong Bob, former speaker of Akwa State House Assembly, Mr Onofiok Luke, Esq, woman leader of the area, Dr Dora Bassey, paramount ruler of Nsit Ubium and Oku Ibom Ibibio, Ntenyin Solomon Etuk, recalled the bad state of the road in the past and its effect on the people of the area, and thanked Governor Eno for coming to the rescue of the people of the area.
They noted that the road, before the intervention, was a death trap to school children during rainy season and that it made trade with agricultural produce difficult, thanking the governor for ensuring the completion of the road which, they admitted, has brought relief to the people.
The managing director of Bulletine Construction Company, Chief Faysal Harb, in a vote of thanks, expressed appreciation to Akwa Ibom government for having confidence in his company and to the community for cooperating with his workers, assuring that the company would do due diligence in all projects approved for it by the government.
