Following the movement of the Akwa Ibom State governor, Pastor Umo Eno, from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), the state commissioner for housing has reiterated his commitment to continue supporting the governor to ensure a complete actualzation of his administration’s ARISE Agenda, adding that he has also formally aligned with the progressives.
Dr Henry Archibong who spoke during a well attended enlarged stakeholders meeting at his home residence – Mbak Obio Itam in Itu Local Government Area; described the move as a “continuation of loyalty to purposeful leadership.” He reiterated his unwavering support for the ARISE Agenda, which remains the policy blueprint of the present administration.
The commissioner emphasised that political parties were vehicles to achieving governance objectives and should not be seen as obstacles to service delivery. He stated that his commitment is to the people of Akwa Ibom State and that what truly matters is the delivery of democracy dividends and staying true to the vision of development, which in Akwa Ibom State’s case is embodied in the ARISE Agenda and that it remains unchanged.
He noted that the decision to align with Eno in his new political home was both moral and strategic, stressing that the collective interest of the state must always take precedence over partisan politics.
Archibong noted that at a time when unity and cohesion are required to drive home the gains of good governance, standing with the governor was both a moral responsibility and a necessity for seamless policy implementation and uninterrupted development.
Archibong further reassured Akwa Ibom residents that the shift in political alignment would not affect ongoing housing and urban development projects. He maintained that his ministry would continue to execute programs under the Arise Agenda with renewed energy and focus. He urged citizens to continue supporting the administration’s efforts regardless of political affiliation, emphasising that progress and prosperity should be the shared goal of all well-meaning stakeholders.
Shortly after the stakeholders meeting, Archibong proceeded to the APC office in his ward, where he was issued a membership card by the ward chairman; Mr Lawrence Ekong and urged other supporters to follow suit.
The deputy speaker, Akwa Ibom House of Assembly, Mr KufreAbasi Edidiem; and the executive chairman of Itu Local Government Council, Mr Ubong Nkutt; also announced their decision to join the APC during the local government meeting.
