UYO
The head of Civil Service has charged workers in Akwa Ibom government’s employ to show loyalty to the Gov Umo Eno-led government as a critical responsibility expected of them.
Elder Effiong Essien stated this on Saturday at the Uyo Cenotaph, while addressing government workers after the fitness road walk organised by his office for them, as part of activities to mark the 2025 Public Service Week in the State.
Essien opined that loyalty in service is not negotiable as it was mandatory for all workers to be loyal to any government of the day, adding that irrespective of party affiliation or interest, workers must be loyal to the government in power.
He said the Akwa Ibom governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has done so much for Akwa Ibom workers, including: approval for the 2025 Public Service Week Celebration in the State, prompt payment of salaries and pensions and human capacity development for workers, among others, adding that these much deserved workers deep appreciation and applause.
Essien commended the workers for defying the early morning rains to turn-up for the road walk which, he said, is necessary to keep the workers smart and agile for effective service delivery in keying with the main theme of the 2025 Public Service Week, “Leveraging Technology For A Smart and Agile Public Service.”
He expressed appreciation to the Ad-hoc Committee for the Planning and Implementation of the 2025 Public Service Week, for the successful organisation of the week-long celebration, acknowledging that all the lined-up activities experienced large participation and attendance and prayed God to bless all endeavours of the workers in double-folds.
Chairman of the 2025 Public Service Week Celebration and permanent secretary, Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Mrs Grace Akpan, expressed appreciation to the dean, College of Permanent Secretaries, Bar Uduak Eyo-Nsa and the entire members of the College for their support and cooperation and solicited their continuous support for the remaining activity.
Akpan reminded the workers of the Grand Finale of the Celebration, which was the Thanksgiving Service to be held at the International Christian Worship Centre by 12pm and requested all workers to turn-up in their white apparel and be seated by 11.30 am, awaiting the commencement of the event.
