Residents of Ikpa Road have applauded the Akwa Ibom Government over the ongoing intervention work on the failed portion of the road.
The residents who expressed their joy recently when The Pioneer reporters visited the road construction site, noted that the bad portion had posed a serious challenge on the residents and other users of the road, especially whenever it rained.
They applauded the state government for the timely intervention on the road, adding that when completed, traffic along Ikpa Road would be less cumbersome.
Mr Lawrence Anthony, a student of Uniuyo and resident of Ikpa Road, expressed his excitement over the road repairs and commended the state government for taking the initiative to repair the bad portion of the road.
“I am very happy that the state government has taken steps to fix the bad portion of the road. Before now, both pedestrians and other commuters were finding it difficult to traverse the bad portion of the road, but thank God, today that is history,” Anthony stated.
Mrs Victory Itama, a businesswoman along the road, commended the state government for fixing the bad portion of the road, stressing that residents of Ikpa Road were excited over the development.
Mr Ubong Paulinus, a tricycle rider, described the government’s intervention as a welcome development, adding that his colleagues and other road users could now ply the entire length and breadth of Ikpa Road without fear of any potholes.
He urged the state government to extend similar gesture to other bad roads in Uyo metropolis.
Mrs Blessing John, who said she is a regular user of the road expressed gratitude to the state government for fixing the bad portion of the road, adding that her business now runs smoothly as the road has become more accessible.
A 400 level engineering student in the University of Uyo, Saviour Eyo, said the intervention would give Ikpa Road a new look as well as add to the aesthetics of the University of Uyo town campuses and annex.
