Governor Umo Eno has frowned at incessant vandalism and destruction of government property in Akwa Ibom communities, saying village heads will be held accountable for any further vandalism and destruction of government property in their domain.
Eno, who bared his mind over the weekend, during the Government House monthly prayer service which took place at the Latter House Chapel, Government House, Uyo, said further that government will not hesitate to withdraw the certificate of recognition of the village head in any community where government property is vandalised.
According to him, if a public school, well furnished with modern facilities by the government could be conveniently vandalized by hoodlums in their locality, what is the usefulness of the village head?
Eno, therefore, directed the commissioner for local government and chieftaincy affairs, Mkpisong Frank Archibong and the State chairman of the Association of Local Government of Nigeria, ALGON, Dr. Uwemedimo Udo, to immediately convene a meeting with village heads to brief them accordingly on the development.
He called on every Akwa Ibomite to be security conscious to safeguard public property and commonwealth of the people.
Speaking on government’s plan to provide mini water projects in each ward of the State, Eno made known that the project will be handled by the Inter-Ministerial Direct Labour Committee, and directed them to involve his personal assistants in all the wards across the State.
In his homily on the theme, “Unsearchable God”, with text drawn from Romans 11:33, the presiding bishop of Beautiful Gate Family Church, Reverend Bolaji Adeisrael, admonished Christians to continuously trust and obey God and His words in order to experience His mysterious help and power to excel excellently in life, as God’s ways are mysterious but favourable to His children.
The prayer service featured sessions of inspirational praise, worship, choir ministrations and prayers.
