Govt Inaugurates 7-Man Governing Council For AKSU

Governor Umo Eno has inaugurated a 7-man Governing Council for Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU) with Senator Udoma Udo Udoma as pro-chancellor and chairman of the Council.
Other members of the University Governing Council are the immediate past secretary to the state government, Dr. Emmanuel Ekuwem, commissioner for education, Professor Ubong Essien, Surveyor Mfoniso Essien, Lady Stella Udoh, Dr. Enefiok Edem, and the commissioner for science and digital economy, Dr. Frank Ekpenyong.
Eno, who inaugurated the Council on Monday, through the secretary to the State government (SSG), Prince Enobong Uwah, at Government House, Uyo, urged the governing council to maintain zero tolerance for cultism and other anti-social activities in the University, stressing that degrees are awarded based on learning and character.
He congratulated the Oku Ibom Ibibio, His Eminence, Ntenyin Solomon Etuk, on his appointment as the chancellor of the University, Senator Udoma Udo Udoma, as pro-chancellor and chairman of the governing board, Professor OtoAbasi Akpan as the substantive vice chancellor of the institution, and other members, on their appointment, and wished them a successful tenure.
Eno commended the vice chancellor, Akpan, for his purposeful leadership which has earned the institution full accreditation for commencement of a Faculty of Law and other courses.
The governor, who expressed joy over the accreditation of the law faculty of the institution, attributed the feat to Akpan’s passionate leadership and collaboration with relevant regulatory and accreditation agencies in the country. 
He described the state-owned university as one of the most sought after institutions by prospective students in the State and, indeed, the nation and promised to deepen efforts in prioritising education as a means of social advancement and growth as captured in the ARISE Agenda.
The governor highlighted his administration’s contributions and support to the institution, which among others include the award of contract for the construction of internal roads at the main campus, and payment of subvention and bursaries to students in tertiary institutions and others, urging the students to be committed to fortifying intellectual foundations for success and growth.
