The Akwa Ibom governor has charged the newly elected executive officers of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the just concluded ward congress of the party in the State to live up to expectation in line with the confidence reposed in them by the party.
Pastor Umo Eno who gave the charge, Saturday, during an interaction with Government House correspondents, shortly after participating in the PDP Ward Congress, at his Ibiakpan Obotim Ward 2, centre in Nsit Ubium Local Government Area, also urged them to ensure absolute loyalty and commitment to the course of the party as this was necessary as holders of the forte at the grassroot level.
Eno, while describing the exercise as the beginning of building a new structure for the party, applauded PDP members across the state for maintaining decorum and ensuring smooth and successful conduct of the ward congress across the state.
He cautioned the executives and members against any diabolic oath of allegiance to any person, aside the oath of office to serve the party, adding that what the party directs must be carried out by everyone as the party is supreme.
“From the report we have received across the state, congress went well and all the party guidelines and principles were observed. We have our party representatives from Abuja, independent observers, INEC, is around. So all the requirements were met. It’s been a very peaceful congress and we trust God that that’s how it will continue.
“Now we have started the process of setting up a brand-new structure for the party and we please request that all our team and all our people that are elected will do their work and be loyal to the party. Don’t go and take oath from anybody. The only oath is your swearing-in to office. What the party directs let everyone do that. The party is supreme. What the party wants is what will happen, not your personal opinion”.
The State chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Elder Aniekan Akpan, stated that reports from returning officers in the various wards indicated that the process had been very peaceful and smooth, saying his party was ready for the upcoming local government elections.
The representative of the PDP at the national, Hassan Yakubu, Esq, who was there to observe the exercise also acknowledged the credibility of the congress, and lauded its peaceful conduct.
The newly elected chairman of Ibiakpan Obotim Ward 2, Mr Jephthah Tom, thanked the leaders and members of the party for trusting him with the responsibility of leading the ward.
Tom particularly thanked the governor for making out time to also file behind him to ensure his success in the exercise, pledging absolute loyalty to the party and to ensure that he places the interest of the party as paramount in the exercise of his duties.
