The Akwa Ibom governor, on Friday, led dignitaries and top government officials, both serving and former, in the State, including his predecessor, Mr Udom Emmanuel and another former governor, Obong Victor Attah, to the funeral ceremony of late Obonganwan Ekaete Nduese Essien, wife of a one-time minister of lands and housing, Chief Nduese Essien.
Pastor Umo Eno, at the event which took place at the Eket Stadium, in Eket Local Government Area, sympathised with the chief mourner and husband of the deceased, Chief Nduese Essien, on the demise of his beloved wife, urging him to take courage in the good character the deceased exhibited.
Eno described the deceased as a mother to the husband, children, and the community and one whom, he noted, has made various impacts and had supported her husband all through her lifetime till the point of her departure.
“We are gathered here this afternoon to bid farewell to a mother; a mother in the good sense of the word, a mother first to the husband, to the children and to the community. A mother who has made various impact, and has supported her husband all though her journey till the point when she departed.
I have come to know mummy as I called her as a very dedicated woman, someone who was always there for us.
“Every time we come home, there was always food for us no matter what. She was there although our campaign and it is very painful that she had to leave when she did. But we have confidence that it is only God that has the numbers of our days in his palms and when the day come, no one can stop it.
I have believe that mummy is looking at us from the balcony of heaven and smiling, telling us that she has finished her race.
“We know that this woman led a good life, and by the grace of God, God will show her mercy and will accept her into his kingdom.
“As she goes home today to be with the Lord, I pray for you Sir, that you do not despair, as we are all around you. Please be strong with the comfort you find around all of us and we pray that God will keep you strong and extend your days,” Governor Eno said.
His predecessor, Mr Udom Emmanuel, whose message was delivered through the former House of Representatives member, Patrick Ifon, said the late Obonganwan Ekaette Nduese Essien will be greatly missed by all.
The chief mourner and husband of the deceased, Chief Nduese Essien, thanked the governor and other guests for their show of love to him and prayed for God’s blessings upon them.
