The Akwa Ibom governor has sworn into office six new High Court Judges, attributing their elevation to their professional competence.
The Judges were, Mfon Winifred Umohandi Esq, Bassey James Ekanem, Esq, Bassey Iwakaowo Essien, Esq, Comfort Henry Morrison, Esq, Edet Ekpo Ntekim, Esq, and Sharon Julius Eddie, Esq.
Pastor Umo Eno at the swearing-in ceremony, Monday, at the Banquet Hall, Government House, Uyo, was optimistic that having more Judges in the judicial system will ensure speedy trial of criminals and punishment meted out according to the law of the land.
Eno congratulated the newly appointed judges who were recommended by the Nigerian Judiciary Council (NJC) for elevation which, he noted, is a testimony of their professional competence, sound judicial antecedents and their contributions towards the advancement of their career.
He appreciated the Chief Justice of the Federation, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun and other members of the Nigeria Judiciary Commission for their support and recommendations.
Eno recalled that since he came on board 18 months ago, his administration has enjoyed a robust relationship with the Judiciary arm of government, respecting the time-tested principles of separation of power, and thanked the State Chief Judge, Justice Ekaette Obot, for engendering great spirit of collaboration and cooperation.
The state governor noted that his mandate is to serve the people to ensure that the rule of law is respected and the society is free from all criminal elements to enable the people to legitimately pursue their businesses in a peaceful, safe and secure environment.
To do so, Eno said it was needful to expeditiously punish those who violate the law and cause a breach to the public peace, saying, “as the State still maintains its status as one of the safest states in the nation, we are determined to maintain this, going forward”.
The state chief executive officer stated the determination of his administration to making Akwa Ibom an uncomfortable place for criminals and their enablers, adding that as the last hope of the common man, he has no doubt that the Judiciary will continue to dispense justice fairly without favour, social or political status.
Eno pledged his administration’s determination to continuously work in partnership with the Judiciary for the service of the State.
Highpoint of the inauguration was the presentation of official cars to the judges to assist them in the discharge of their duties.
