ITU
Akwa Ibom governor has cautioned those he describe as political masquerades in the state to embrace the prevailing peace and unity in the overall interest of the state.
Gov Umo Eno who gave the warning during a worship service at Our Saviour’s Methodist Cathedral, Ekit Itam II in Itu Local Government Area, noted with concern the pockets of machinations by certain elements to disrupt the peaceful atmosphere currently being enjoyed in the state.
He said despite their attempts, the State will remain peaceful and united under his leadership.
According to the Governor “Akwa Ibom is United. Akwa Ibom is a land of peace and those attempting to foment trouble will fail.
“All those who hide under political banners to cause any form of trouble are wasting their time. God will not allow their plans to succeed.”
He said his decision to worship in the Church was divinely ochestrated and expressed joy at being re-united with the former Chaplain to the late Prelate Sunday Mbang, Rev Dr. Nse Akpan, the Presbyter of the Church.
“I love all churches but worshipping here today is very special to my heart, because of our father, the late Prelate Mbang. Prelate Mbang used to organisze men of God to pray for my successful election.
“God does not forget, He remembers our good deeds. Coming here is a miracle.
“The Lord laid it heavily in my heart to worship outside Uyo, and when my aides presented videos of churches I chose this one, without even knowing that the Presbyter is Rev Nse.”
The Governor recounted how the Prelate Emeritus’ Chaplain used to cheerfully assist him while working with Dr Sunday Mbang and maintained that God used that period to groom Rev Nse Akpan for the work ahead.
Earlier in his homily, the Bishop of Itu diocese of the Methodist Church, Rt Rev Friday Jepther who took his reading from John 1:29-42, reminded all of God’s promise that He will never forsake his people.
“While God is always by our side, he has warned that our hands should not be soiled, and so if we are clean, God will never forsake us.”
He lauded Governor Umo Eno for leading the State in the right direction to the promised land, urging him to retain his confidence in God.
Over the years God prepared and groomed you to lead the people, he noted praying for the continued success of the Umo Eno administration.
He said as an anointed man of God, conspiracies against the Governor will not prosper.
Messages of goodwill from the deputy speaker of the State House of Assembly, Mr Kufre Edidem, the chairman of APC, Obong Stephen Ntukekpo, the SSG, Prince Enobong Uwah, the Commissioner for Housing , Dr Henry Archibong, former SSG, Mrs Grace Ekong and the chairman of the local Government area, who all recounted the projects executed in the area by Governor Eno.
Governor Eno later committed to support the completion of the Church project, leading other dignitaries and government officials to support the project.
