The governor of Akwa Ibom has set December deadline for the inauguration of the 2.4-kilometre Ofriyo Road project with a 120-metre span bridge linking Nsit Ubium and Eket Local Government Areas of the State.
Pastor Umo Eno, PhD, who stated this, Monday, while fielding questions from Government House correspondents, shortly after he inspected projects in Nsit Ubium and Eket Local Government Areas, also urged the contractors to maximize time, and device means of working round the clock to ensure they deliver the state project according to specifications, for inauguration before December 2026.
Giving reasons for his routine inspection of project sites, Governor Eno said it was necessary to match the level of work on ground with what was presented by the commissioner for works and fire service at the delivery meeting held recently.
Eno, who defied the rain for the routine projects inspection in Eket and Nsit Ubium, marching through the marshy earth in some of the locations to see through the projects with intermittent instructions where necessary, said it was his style to inspect projects located within his area of visit per time, adding that having been in his home town, Nsit Ubium, over the weekend, it was necessary to visit project sites within his area and neighbouring Eket.
The governor acknowledged the tangible improvement from his last inspection visit, and urged the contractors to double efforts towards timely delivery of the projects.
“I like seeing things for myself. That’s why I’m here to look at the quality and the extent of progress of their work to motivate them to do more and deliver as expected.
“They have made progress, but I will be much more impressed when I take delivery of the projects. But then, from what we have seen so far, we have reasons to believe that they will deliver to the expected standard and timeline,” Governor Eno said.
Chairman and chief executive officer of one of the contracting firms, Amitec Construction and Development Limited, Aiman Saimua, said his company has put mechanism in place to deliver the jobs on time.
Some of the project sites visited included the ongoing construction of a Counter Terrorism Unit, 2.4-kilometre Ofriyo Road with a 120-metre span bridge linking Nsit Ubium and Eket Local Government Areas, the general hospital and model primary school in Nsit Ubium, as well as the dualisation of the 11.6-kilometre Ikot Imoh–Strabag Junction–Eket Road.
