The governor of Akwa Ibom has frowned at the incessant vandalism of public facilities in the State, describing the act as a hindrance to rural development.
Pastor Umo Eno, who bared his mind, Monday, during a courtesy call on him by the newly appointed commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, at Government House, Uyo, condemned the spate of such act, particularly on transformers, as it costs government much to replace them when vandalised.
Eno said his administration was promoting community policing through Ibom Community Watch and was planning to mount at least one person in every village to monitor government facilities against being vandalised.
He expressed satisfaction with the choice of CP Azare who, he recalled, had served in the State as deputy commissioner, Operations, during which period he had gathered adequate knowledge of the terrain and its security situation.
Eno congratulated CP Azare on his promotion and posting to Akwa Ibom, as well as other newly-promoted officers in the State, and expressed his administration’s readiness to work with Azare as it did in his days as deputy commissioner, Operations.
He noted the State government has always maintained a robust working relationship with security agencies in the State, and was looking forward to that continued and symbiotic relationship with the leadership of the Nigeria Police as government continues to serve Akwa Ibom people.
The governor assured Azare of necessary support to enable him combat crime and maintain peace and security in the State, even as government intends to ensure that each village has at least one security operative who will serve as an eye for the Nigeria Police.
The newly appointed commissioner of Police, CP Azare, appreciated Eno for his support for security agencies in the State, and assured the governor of his commitment to collaborating with other security agencies to ensure maintenance of peace and security in the State.
