… Urges Family To Sustain Deceased’s Noble Legacies
By Bassey Nkponam
MBO
The governor of Akwa Ibom has enjoined the family of Justice Okon Abang of the Court of Appeal to sustain the noble virtues that defined the life and stenciled the name of their late mother, Madam Atim Okon Abang, in the hearts of thousands who knew her, as her remains were interred, Friday.
Pastor Umo Eno, who bared his mind during the funeral service in honour of the deceased who passed on at the age of 89, as was conducted by the Oron Archdiocese of the Methodist Church, Nigeria, at Isuk Oduo Ebughu, in Mbo Local Government Area, expressed condolences to the family over the demise of their mother.
Eno, in his condolence message presented at the event, described the late Matriarch as an epitome of virtue, hard work, diligence, morality and integrity, who lived and departed the world fulfilled having passed the legacy to her children as reflected in their noble respective careers.
According to him, the passing of a dear one such as a mother is deeply painful and emotionally agonising, urging Justice Abang to take solace in the Scripture which reminds Christians that the passing of a believer is the key that opens the vault of Heaven.
He urged the jurist to take further consolation in the knowledge that his dear mother lived long enough to see him grow and radiate the virtues of hard work, diligence, morality and integrity which she inculcated in him, early in life.
Eno, while eulogising the deceased, noted that she may have departed the world, fulfilled and proud of the excellence and distinction Justice Abang has achieved in his career as an officer of the law, urging him to do all he can, to sustain these noble values that defined his late mother’s life.
According to the governor, in doing that, Justice Abang will write the most cherished epitaph in honour of the deceased, and stencil her name in the hearts of the thousands who knew her.
Ministering on the topic: “The Spiritual Mary and Practical Martha”, with text taken from Luke 2:29, the Archbishop of the Oron Archdiocese of the Methodist Church, Nigeria, Most Reverend Emmanuel Udofia, likened the late Atim Abang to the biblical Mary who was spiritually sensitive to godly and spiritual things, noting that those virtues has helped her prepare for eternity.
Udofia enjoined the sympathisers to emulate the deceased’s commitment, virtue and exemplary life by acknowledging God as the source of all fortunes they enjoy in life.
