Gov. Umo Eno has advised youths in Akwa Ibom against being used by anyone to heat up the polity as the political season for the 2027 elections approaches.
Eno, who gave the advice over the weekend, during a breakfast meeting with the leadership of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Akwa Ibom State Chapter, in Uyo, urged youths to let peace reign, focus on self development and shun every tendency capable of truncating the peace and unity currently enjoyed in the State.
He urged them to take advantage of the numerous opportunities in the State for their individual development and collective good, noting that the creation of a separate Ministry for Youth Development was basically to have a clear focus and develop programmes and policies specifically for youths of the State.
Eno said government, under his leadership, has been very intentional about youth development as indicated in the various training and empowerment programmes especially through the Dakkada Skills Acquisition Centre (DASAC) and the Ibom Leadership and Entrepreneurial Development (Ibom-LED) Centre.
Secretary to the state government (SSG), Prince Enobong Uwah, noted that youths were leaders in their own rights, with the youth council serving as a foundation for building future leaders, and urged them to remain peaceful and law abiding to benefit more, as Eno has been very favourable to them through appointments and empowerment programmes.
The member representing Oron/Mbo/Okobo/Udung Uko and Urue Offong/Oruko Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Mr Martins Esin, appreciated Eno for his commitment to youth development, youth training and empowerment as well as the vision for the youth-friendly centres which will be built across the 31 local government areas.
Esin, who doubles as chairman of the House Committee on Youth Development, told youths that most of the programmes of the current administration led by Eno were youth-friendly, assuring the governor that the youths were fully with him and will continue to support him beyond 2027.
The commissioner for youth development, Dr. Ekerette Ekanem, appreciated the governor for the numerous training and empowerment programmes for youths, and for creating a separate ministry for youth development in Akwa Ibom.
The State chairman of the NYCN, Comrade Emmanuel Ekong as well as Akuku Utitofon from Ukanafun, Paul Ibara from Essien Udim and Abigail Job from Urue Offong/Oruko, all appreciated the governor for his love for Akwa Ibom youths, and specifically for creating a separate ministry for youth development.
They assured the governor that Akwa Ibom youths will continue to support him and work for his re-election in 2027.
