Federal Government has pledged its commitment to upgrading equipment and facilities in Federal Science and Technical Colleges nationwide, with a view to empowering the next generation of skilled workers in the country.
The minister of Education, Professor Tahir Mamman, who stated this, recently, during the Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET) Camp Programme for
Girls in Federal Science Technical Colleges (FSTC) which took place at Federal Science
Technical College, Ukana Offot, Uyo, maintained that, “By modernising technical education, we’re investing in our youths and securing the future of our economy,” adding that, “the 21st Century world of work is knowledge and skills-driven, requiring a globally competitive skilled workforce.”
Mamman, who emphasised the role of women in nationbuilding as enshrined in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), said the TVET Camp for Girls was aimed at stimulating the innovative and creative abilities of female students, encourage healthy competition among them, as well as foster sustained interest in skills acquisition and entrepreneurship through technical and vocational education.
The minister acknowledged the warmth reception accorded him and his entourage by the Akwa Ibom State Government and pledged the federal government’s continued collaboration with the state to advance its educational systems.
While congratulating the students for attending days training with the expectation that they willutilise the knowledge and skills acquired,
Mamman thanked the management, staff and the trainers for their relentless efforts in ensuring the success of the programme.
Earlier, the Akwa Ibom commissioner for education, Mrs. Idongesit Etiebet, praised Governor Umo Eno for prioritising education in Akwa
Ibom as one of the major pillars of the ARISE Agenda of his administration as evidenced in the construction of model schools, provision ofmodern facilities, as well as improvement in the welfare of teachers, students, and pupils in public primary, secondary, and tertiary schools in the state.
“Without a doubt, Governor Eno’s commitment to education is unwavering, particularly in making Akwa Ibom state a serene and conducive environment, devoid of insecurity, and this has attracted many credible projects and programmes to the state,” she maintained.
Etiebet expressed happiness over the partnership between the Federal Ministry of Education and the African Development Bank (ADB), in organising the TVET Programme, and thanked the duo for the decision to choose
Akwa Ibom as the host for the maiden edition of TVET, urging the students to make judicious use of the knowledge acquired during the training in order to attain self-reliance.
The acting registrar and chief executive officer of the National Business and Technical Examination Board (NABTEB), Dr Nnasia Asanga, corroborated on the necessity of the programme in fostering gender inclusiveness and enhancing the girls’ skills, in line with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, pledging NABTEB’s commitment toward collaborating with relevant Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) and other partners in the sustenance of TVET’s ideals.
The event which featured presentations of painted projects by the students, awards of excellence and certificates of participation, as well as facility tour also witnessed presentation of goodwill messages from distinguished personalities and corporate bodies across the country.
